Beat the summer heat and chill in a cool theater where comedies, musicals and family classics take the stage.

Feeling sun-wilted? Let us entertain you with cool stage fare in the climate-controlled refuge of professional theaters. Take your pick from the following summer offerings around The Beaches of Fort Myers & Sanibel.

> Broadway Palm Dinner Theatre, Fort Myers (239-278-4422, www.broadwaypalm.com): Through July 26, the town’s 15-year-old dinner theater takes you down the yellow-brick road with the all-time favorite classic, The Wizard of Oz. Ticket prices range from $25 to $50 with children’s prices also available. From July 21 through Sept. 20, Disney’s High School Musical takes the stage just in time for back to school. Adult tickets are $25 to $35, including a lunch or dinner buffet (both with kid-friendly options). Performances are Tuesday through Sunday evening with matinees Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday.

> Broadway Palm’s Children’s Theatre: Through Aug. 3, the adventures of Mowgli and Balloo delight families during special matinee lunch performances of The Jungle Book. The lunch buffet features kids cuisine – from hot dogs to mac ‘n’ cheese – and is included in the $15 (for all ages) ticket price.

> Children on Stage: Two local theaters host summer acting programs for children, and everyone’s invited to witness the budding young starlets’ performances. Call The Schoolhouse Theater (www.theschoolhousetheater.com) on Sanibel Island at 239-472-8930 for more information on its summer kids’ production. Florida Repertory Theatre in Fort Myers conducts four two-week sessions that culminate in different family productions, to which the public is invited on a limited basis. Shows include Disney’s High School Musical, Annie Jr., Schoolhouse Rock LIVE!, Jr. and Willie Wonka Junior. Call 239-332-4665 ext. 20 for information or visit www.floridarep.org.

> The Schoolhouse Theater, Sanibel Island (239-472-6862 www.theschoolhousetheater.com): Through Aug. 16, the cast will be alternating two modern British comedies by Ray Cooney: Run For Your Wife and its sequel, Caught in the Net. All shows begin at 7 p.m. with ticket prices at $25 for adults and $10 for children.
