On Saturday, Aug. 23, 2008, the Imaginarium Hands-On Museum in Fort Myers will celebrate its 13th Birthday Bash with live animal demonstrations, a showing of the 3-D DIVE! Manned Submersibles and New Explorers movie, live clown skits, a stingray feeding, face painting, make-and-take projects and birthday cake, plus all of the museum's exciting interactive exhibits. The party begins at 11 a.m. and wraps up around 4 p.m.

Don’t miss the two spectacular Solid, Liquid, Gas science demonstrations at 2:30 and 3:30 that day. Cat Country radio station will be airing a remote broadcast from Imaginarium between noon and 2 p.m., and kids can meet the Cat Country mascot. In the afternoon, stop by and say hola to the DJs from Ke Buena 1440 Radio.

The day of the Birthday Bash, the museum is offering free admission for kids with a paid adult admission ($8, $7 for seniors). The first 300 children to arrive receive a free giveaway.

The Imaginarium offers hands-on enrichment for all ages with more than 50 interactive exhibits. Get blown away in the Hurricane Experience, walk through a thunderstorm, dig for dinosaur fossils, and get up close and personal with an assortment of animals including alligators, snakes, hissing cockroaches and even a kinkajou. Drop by Fisheye Lagoon to feed the fish, ducks, geese, swans and turtles. Also enjoy the Hands-On Fun Show and educational films in the Theater-in-the-Tank. Younger visitors will enjoy exploring the Tiny Town early-childhood area and can perform their own show in the Puppet Theatre.

The "SEA-to-SEE" Touch Tanks comprise a trio of marine touch tanks that include a 600-gallon Stingray touch pool; an adjoining 400-gallon touch pool filled with crabs, sea stars, mollusks, urchins and more; and a 10-gallon wheelchair-accessible touch tank. Enjoy close encounters with marine life and live demonstrations throughout the day.

The Imaginarium resides in its colorful downtown Fort Myers home at 2000 Cranford Ave. It is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday noon to 5 p.m. For more information on the hands-on museum and its birthday bash, call 239-321-7420 or visit www.cityftmyers.com/imaginarium.
