Sanibel Spotlighted as a Top Shelling Beach

Travel + Leisure featured Sanibel Island as one of the "Top Shelling Beaches" in its July 2008 issue. The award-winning travel magazine calls Sanibel a "shellers' Mecca" and says its pristine white-sand shores hold "the best unburied treasures in the U.S."

Sanibel Island sits just west of Fort Myers along Florida’s southwest coast. The wildlife-rich island boasts some 400 species of seashells, from common scallops to the rare junonia. Aside from its international reputation for shelling, the island is known for its calm, kid-friendly Gulf of Mexico waters, fascinating nature and thriving art community.
